REMOVAL
1. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
(a) Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.
(b) Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 20 N·m (204 kgf·cm, 15 ft·lbf)
2. DRAIN TRANSFER OIL
3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
4. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the front propeller shaft assembly
.
5. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the propeller shaft assembly
.
6. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE FRONT NO. 3 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE HOSE HEAT PROTECTOR
9. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS PIPE ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/o Trailer Towing System)
11. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY (w/ Trailer Towing System)
12. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the nut and clip, and disconnect the transmission control cable.
|
13. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
|
(a) Remove the bolt and flywheel housing under cover.
|
|
(b) Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove each bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.
|
14. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.
|
15. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the 4 bolts of the rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator.
|
|
(b) Remove the 4 nuts, 4 washers, 4 bolts and No. 3 frame crossmember.
|
16. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
|
(a) Remove the bolt and rear engine mounting heat insulator.
|
(b) Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission.
17. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
|
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
|
|
(b) Tilt the automatic transmission downward.
NOTICE:
Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.
|
|
(c) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector, 2 transmission speed sensor connectors and 3 transfer control side connectors.
HINT:
Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
|
(d) Disconnect the 4 connector clamps and 8 harness clamps.
(e) Remove the bolt and disconnect the harness clamp and wire harness.
18. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.
NOTICE:
Do not use excess force when prying the automatic transmission.

19. REMOVE CONNECTOR CLAMP BRACKET
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 left bank oxygen sensor connector clamp brackets from the automatic transmission.
20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET
|
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and transmission control cable bracket.
|
21. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transmission.
22. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
23. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH AND DRIVE PLATE
(a) Inspect the torque converter clutch and drive plate
